HEATHER ISLANDER, LMHCA, MIT, LMT, CST

I’m passionate about helping people learn to trust their thoughts, feelings, and voice. I am a good fit for adults and couples who wish to find freedom from trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and stressful life transitions. To varying degrees, people experience the grief that arises from navigating attachment concerns that originate within the family of origin, or on a systemic level when people are the recipients of marginalization and oppression. I enjoy empowering people within the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities as they explore the intersectionality of their identities.

Together we will explore specific and actionable steps that will allow you to find hope and strengthen your relationships. As a counselor, I will facilitate creating an environment where building on your unique strengths forms the foundation upon which we will explore what is possible.

In sessions, I will use a trauma-informed approach that draws on concepts from somatic work, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. We will utilize mindfulness concepts and emotional regulation techniques so that change feels nurturing and safe. My background in teaching, educational therapy, and craniosacral therapy has provided me with a deep understanding of how the brain and nervous system function. This knowledge forms a secure base that informs my interventions and suggested techniques. I have a Master’s in Teaching from Seattle University and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Bastyr University.

My experiences with clients and students have shown me that everyone has the potential to access their wisdom, vitality, and goodness. Please contact me to see if we are a good fit. More information can be found on my website: https://www.islandercounseling.com
